2017 had fabulous beauty trends. Highlighter became a must in your makeup routine and liquid lipsticks changed the game. However, with the good, always comes the bad. Here’s a list of beauty trends I believe we should say goodbye to in 2018.
*Disclaimer – I do not mean to offend anyone. Take this with a grain of salt. If you love these trends, then keep rocking them!
1. Gradient Brows
Nothing bothers me more than looking at someone’s brows and getting an uncomfortable feeling. I saw a lot of beauty bloggers doing gradient brows in 2017 and I honestly have no clue why. There is nothing natural looking about these brows. I especially don’t understand the harsh lines above and below. People’s brows don’t naturally get darker as they near the edge of the face. Let’s keep our brows even in 2018 please.
2. Lip Fillers Out of Control!
Lip fillers were all the rage in 2017 among beauty bloggers. It seemed like every beauty Youtuber was getting a plump pout. However, some took it too far. I am all for a plump pout and I have even considered getting lip filler in my top lip to even it out with my bottom lip. Unfortunately, some took it to the extreme causing unnatural looking lips that do not fit their face. I guess a trend I’d like to see in 2018 is more natural looking beauties.
There is no doubt that Jaclyn Hill is incredible at doing makeup and this is not to throw shade at her, but i’ve notice that ever makeup tutorial she does, she finishes it off with false lashes. False lashes became a staple in makeup routines in 2017. I could not find a makeup tutorial on Youtube that didn’t include falsies. I understand that beauty bloggers are usually doing makeup tutorials that are glam and “over the top”, but when I would watch a video titled “natural makeup” or “everyday makeup look” and it included falsies, that just did not make sense. If you are honestly wearing falsies everyday, I think you might want to rethink that. I understand if you have a medical condition or sparse lashes, but the majority of these bloggers have great lashes to begin with. Let’s limit the falsies to glam looks in 2018.
4. Contour Crazy
Contour and highlight had become like peanut butter and jelly in 2017. You could not have one without the other. Most contour looks were natural and added a soft, sculpted look while others were a bit too extreme. If I can see a line on your cheeks or if the color is too dark for your skin-tone, that’s when we have a problem. Contour is difficult to master and I admit I am still not a pro. But just make sure everything is well blended and your cheek bones are naturally enhanced, not dramatically accentuated.
5. Unicorn Poop
Iridescent makeup marketed as “holographic” was probably every beauty blogger’s worst pet peeve in 2017. The mystical, colorful, unicorn makeup trend blew up last year. I’ll admit, it was great at first. It was something different and fun to add to your makeup collection, but when it didn’t stop, it started to get old. Almost every makeup brand came out with some kind of unicorn or mermaid themed makeup product and I hoped in 2018 they would come out with something different, but I spoke too soon. Too Faced already has a unicorn collection debuting in 2018. I don’t think they got the hint that most of us are over it.
