Skincare Gems

It’s always been important for me to use natural, cruelty-free skincare products. I have recently found some hidden gems that have changed my skin. Here’s what I have been loving…

Farmacy Skin Dew Hydrating Essence Mist & Setting Spray
I recently discovered Farmacy while trying to find a cruelty-free cleansing balm. I first tried their Green Clean cleansing balm which is now a staple in my collection. My friend recommended this skin mist to me so I actually bought the travel box set which included it. This mist smells amazing and fresh, just like limes. I love to spray this on my face after washing my face and then go in with the next product I will talk about. It really hydrates and gives my skin a healthy dewy, glow. Since it is an essences, it will make your other skincare products works even better.

Farmacy Sleep Tight Firming Night Balm with Echinacea GreenEnvy™
At first I was hesitant to try a firming product because I only use products for acne and dry skin. The first time I tried this overnight, I woke up in the morning and immediately noticed that the two lines across my forehead were almost completely gone. I could not believe I had seen such a drastic difference over one night. I love to put this on after I spray the skin dew on my face.

Farmacy Honey Potion Renewing Antioxidant Hydration Mask with Echinacea GreenEnvy™

This mask is so cool. Well actually, it’s hot. It’s a warming gel mask, so as you rub it onto your face, it warms up and turns white. After washing it off, my face felt so clean and soft. I then followed up with the firming balm and essence for the perfect skincare cocktail.

Lips 101 Ointment Strawberry Multi-Balm

Lanolips makes my favorite lip balms. I recently discovered this brand last year at Ulta. The packaging intrigued me so I decided to pick one up. The strawberry one is so nice. You can put it on thick and use it overnight as a lip mask, or you can put it on lightly as an everyday lip balm. I also get very dry around my mouth, so I put some balm on the dry patches overnight and it’s so much better in the morning.

Sol De Janeiro Brazilian Touch Hand Cream

Coming out of the winter season, my hands are still dry. My least favorite hand creams are ones that stay wet, thick or sticky on your hands. A lot of people love the Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Cream but a body cream wasn’t what I needed. I specifically needed a hand cream and I am so glad I got this. It smells just as good as the Bum Bum cream but this goes on your skin so light and it dries instantly. However, it doesn’t feel like it did nothing for your skin. It really feels like it sinks right into your skin.

Sephora VIB Sale Wish List

It’s almost time for the Sephora VIB sale! Sephora does two major sales during the Fall and the Spring. The Spring sale begins with Rouge members receiving 15% off starting April 13 – April 16 and then VIB and Rouge members receive 15% off from April 20 – April 23. I don’t always shop the sale, but this year I might. Here’s some products on my wish list.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Somewhere, Anywhere – Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayon Collection
I saw the swatches for these lip crayons on Instagram and I was immediately captivated. My favorite colors for Spring/Summer are bold neon reds and oranges. This limited-edition set includes the three lip crayons from the Marc Jacobs Spring 2018 fashion show along with a little bag. The set retails for $59 which is kind of crazy, but I really love lip crayons and I adore these colors. What to do?!

Smashbox Photo Finish Primerizer
This primer has gotten a lot of hype on Youtube. I have combo skin but mainly dry skin, so I tend to use moisturizing primers. However, I can’t seem to find a good primer that actually moisturizes. This retails for $42 but I might pick up the mini size for $15 because it is cheaper per ounce.

Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask
I must admit, this mask is intriguing to me because of the packaging. I have been on the hunt to find more masks so I might give this one a go. Summer Fridays is a new brand created by beauty blogger Marianna Hewitt. So far she has only released this mask but I’m sure there will be more to come. The mask retails for $48 which seems kind of expensive for the size tube you get. I really do want to try it though. Decisions, decisions.

Stila Shimmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow

When the Glitter & Glow shadows first launched, I picked one up right away. Now they have a Shimmer & Glow formula which I would very much enjoy because I prefer a metallic eye opposed to a glittery eye. The two colors I love best are Jezebel, described as a shimmering rose gold and La Douce, described as a shimmering warm gold green. These retail for $24 each, so if I don’t get both, I will definitely get one.

What do you want or plan to pick up during the sale? Also, if you have cruelty-free recommendations, please leave them in a comment. Thanks!

March Favorites

FARMACY Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm with Echinacea GreenEnvy™

Cleansing balms are my favorite product to remove makeup. I have tried many, and one that has made it on my top list is the Green Clean by Farmacy. This product is so refreshing on my face. It smells like lemon-lime and it doesn’t leave an oily residue after washing it off.

Models Own Sculpt & Glow Highlighter Powder in Golden Sand
I had heard about this highlighter from Jamie Paige on Youtube and when she swatched it in her video, I knew I had to get this highlight. This is one of the most blinding highlights I have ever tried. You need to try this, that’s all I can say.

Physicians Formula Healthy Lip Liquid Lipstick in Vitamin Beet

There is something so unique about this liquid lipstick formula. First of all, they smell so fresh and they feel super lightweight. They do not dry down completely matte. Instead, they give your lips a healthy, plump look and it doesn’t accentuate texture or lines on your lips. I know a lot of us are over the super dry, matte lips, so this is a great new alternative for spring!

Natasha Denona Mini Sunset Eyeshadow Palette

This palette has been receiving many mixed reviews and I must admit, I don’t think it is a good representation of Natasha Denona shadows. However, I actually found myself reaching for this a lot in March. The matte shadows are actually very good. The colors are right up my alley and I like that I can get a complete look from this palette. The metallics only seem to show up when I use my finger, but I don’t mind. The size also attracts me because it’s so travel friendly.

Butter London Double Decker Lashes Mascara

I got this mascara in my March Boxycharm and it has quickly become a favorite. My favorite kinds of mascara are the ones with bushy bristles like this one and the Better than Sex by Too Faced. This immediately makes my lashes, bold, dark and thick. It is a little clumpy but honestly, I kind of like that look.

Zara Faux Suede Biker JacketScreen Shot 2018-04-05 at 2.25.07 PM

A go-to coat I bought in March was this faux suede biker jacket from Zara. I am obsessed with pastel pink and biker jackets are one of my favorite style jackets. It was still a little to cold to wear this in March but I can’t wait to start getting more use out of it in April.

Tips on How to go Cruelty Free

A lot of people love animals and are interested in going cruelty free with their makeup. However, not everyone knows where to start. Here are my top tips on how to make the switch to cruelty free beauty and makeup products. This is exactly how I made the switch.

French bulldog puppy lying on the floor looking at a labtop isolated on a white background
Which companies test on animals? That is the first question we need to answer. My favorite source that will help us answer this is Cruelty-Free Kitty. Here you can find up to date lists of companies that do and do not test on animals. I recommend checking out her “Companies That Test on Animals” post. You can get an overall idea of the companies that test on animals and while going through the list, you can start to do step two!

Make up products on wooden background
While you are scrolling through the list of non cruelty-free makeup, I find it the perfect time to start organizing your makeup collection. You can make two or three piles. 1. Cruelty-free 2. Non cruelty-free and 3. Unsure. If you have products that weren’t listed on the website, put these in the unsure pile. You can go back later and do more specific research.

Once you have your piles you can make the decision to either continue using the non cruelty-free products and not repurchase when they are empty, or you can trash or donate the products. I know trashing the products can be difficult because you have spent money on them. That’s why I would personally either use them up or donate, just long as you promise not to repurchase.

Finding dupes has really made it easy for me to be cruelty-free. Once you realize that you can find a similar cruelty-free product that works the same, if not better than your non cruelty-free product, you’ve hit the jackpot! Here’s some of my favorite dupes.

Get the Colourpop No Filter concealer instead of the Maybelline Fit Me concealer.
Get the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara instead of the Lancome Monsieur Big mascara.
For a color dupe of Mac’s Velvet Teddy, get the Wet n’ Wild MegaLast Lip color in the shade Bare it All.
I really hope this was helpful for those of you who are interested in going cruelty free. For those of you who weren’t interested in going cruelty-free, I hope I inspired you to make the change. With these tips, it is simple, but if you have anymore questions, please leave me a comment.

My Nighttime Skincare Routine

One of my new year resolutions was to invest in really good skincare. I got into skincare last year after discovering Juice Beauty. I absolutely love their blemish range. It has seriously transformed my skin. I used to suffer from acne and nothing I tried seemed to help until Juice Beauty. I love that the brand is organic, natural and of course, cruelty-free. Now that I have been using Juice Beauty for about a year, I figured it was time to switch up my routine and try something new.

If you are at all familiar with what’s “new” and “trending” in beauty, I’m sure you have heard of Drunk Elephant. This brand has blown up lately on Youtube and at Sephora. I had heard so many amazing things from beauty bloggers regarding this brand so I was very curious to try some products.

Drunk Elephant is a cruelty-free brand which is a must for me. Their products incorporate natural ingredients and no synthetic fragrances. Since I have acne prone skin, rosacea and sensitive skin, natural products with no dyes and fragrances is so important.

Let’s get into what I use!

I start with the Beste™ No. 9 Jelly Cleanser. I wash my face with this in the morning and at night in the shower. The consistency is just like jelly, I really like it. A little goes a long way. You only need a drop. My face feels very clean after without feeling dry.

I use the T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial™ about twice a week. This is a very effective face mask, so you definitely don’t need to do this everyday. After cleansing my face, I put this on for the recommended 20 minutes. This mask makes my skin feel so soft after. It is definitely worth the high price tag.

Oils are new to my skincare routine. Since i’ve always had acne prone skin, I was terrified to put oil on my skin. However, I realized that my lack of oil was actually causing my acne. My face was too dry and screaming for some added oils. I am obsessed with the Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil. The consistency has some thickness too it. It’s not a super thin oil. I put this on after I cleanse my face, or if it’s a mask night, after I rinse off my mask. This oil doesn’t clog my pores and doesn’t make me break out. I feel like my skin is finally balanced.

Last but not least. I finish my nighttime routine with a cream. The Lala Retro™ Whipped Cream has a light texture that doesn’t feel heavy or thick on the skin. It’s perfect after applying the marula oil. This feels like it locks in all my skincare. Definitely an important step.
